Blossom Tales Reviewhttps://youtu.be/5iVsglLQFe4Many games try to create the same look and feel of Zelda but fall far of the mark. Blossom Tales is thankfully not a flash in the pan game. The art style is great and different with it blown up overly large square pixel are that still manages to convey the cute and playful style of a Zelda Like game. Lighting is another key feature of this game that gives off the glow of touches and sun beam, even the gloomy atmosphere of the dungeons and swamp area is nice. The sprite animation is good too, because with the limited space for animation due to the size of the sprites the designer still manages to make it seem very real and relatable with the emotion and action portrayed well not needing the Japanese trop of action bubbles.Sound is a big thing in this game having a meaty heft yet colourful humour at the same time. What I mean is that the sound are reminiscence of the old 16-bit games of yore where the sound are similar to the ting and crashing from that time but been expanded on and given reverbed and greater sound scape to give the sound effects a realism of their own. Music is great as well having a feel for the great Zelda tunes but making the tune their own. So, at times you will be playing and humming the tunes and thinking this sounds so like Zelda, nice compilation.Getting to the simple point of it the game is fun. Zipping along with a sword and shield facing all the challenges that the world has to offer. But like all games of this type you have a list of quest to finish in order to complete the game. The king is in a magical slumber that can only be broken from collecting three special items to make a potion to break the curse. So off you go beating bosses and collecting stuff. The twist is that this is story being told by Grandpa to his two grandchildren who frequently talk during the game also inject opinions that are funny and add a real difference to the game play. This is a great game with lovely reto graphic, bopping soundtrack, nice sound and a story that is different from your run of the mill Zelda clones. The first dungeon in this game has as many puzzles as all of Link to the Past combined, and a tile floor puzzle you get stunlocked into losing to by enemies with teleporting attacks. Minor enemies take too long to kill, and you move so slow some of their attacks are isnanely hard to dodge. I feel sorry for whoever suffers through this.. An enjoyable zelda clone. Like Link between worlds, this game uses a 'stamina' like magic meter so bombs and arrows consume 'magic' instead of ammunition.Pros:Good bossesOverpowered weapons that feel funExplorationCons:Nothing you havent seen before. A tribute to the legend of zelda: a link to the past. Not as long or as good but it's still a great game. Epic dungeons and brutal boss battles that will force you to explore the world for gear in preparation. This game has no new ideas, and liberally rehashes the few ideas it borrowed from other games. It's fun enough if you desperately wish there were another Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, but outside of needing that game to be longer, I wouldn't bother.Blossom Tales starts off very promising: it seems very much like it's going to be a spiritual successor to ALTTP. However, you eventually notice that it's just a ripoff, not an interesting continuation. The vast majority of the ideas are stolen shamelessly from ALTTP (to name a few: heart pieces, crystal switches, the most important items are bow & bomb, there's exactly 3 medallions that act like spells, your primary actions are "swing sword" and "charge up sword to do a spin slash," you even get sword beams later on in the game, you run around cutting down grass and smashing pots, etc, etc.) and those that aren't are just lazy remixes of other common mechanics. Funny enough, the constant ALTTP cribbing led me to expect to get boots that increased my speed for a long time -- you eventually do, but moving faster costs magic, so you basically walk slowly the whole game.There's a Simon Says-style puzzle that shows up, I wasn't counting, but around ten times. Except it's worse than that: the pattern doesn't extend, it's randomized each time. So you dont memorize 3 notes, then remember those + 1 more; you just memorize 3 then 4 then 5... all the way up to 8 for some optional rooms.There's a puzzle where, in a delimited area, yo uhave to walk on each tile exactly once, and there's various unwalkable spaces to add some interest. Rather, there's about a dozen of these. Some of them require pushing blocks around instead of stepping on each tile. A couple times, the blocks slide.But mostly it's a hack-and-slash adventure game, which makes the jumps to pure puzzles a bit jarring. Entering a new room in a dungeon you don't know if you're going to be confronted with enemies to navigate around while looking for a switch or if you're just going to do a sokoban-style puzzle. It's not elegant!The hack-and-slash part is very easy, I think. I admittedly farmed heart pieces a bit, just as a consequence of wandering around and doing puzzles, so it may be more difficult if you're more of a direct-route sort of player. But for most bosses I never learned the mechanics: I ran to the boss, slashed a few times or threw a bomb, then repeated when they moved. Sometimes this required a health potion; sometimes not. I had 4 unused health potions and a couple fairies when I finished, so it's not like I was hurting for resources. I don't like games that are particularly hard execution-wise, but I'd like to feel at least a small sense of accomplishment when taking out a boss, but the ease of just running in and swinging robbed me of that.The times where that part of the game is hard feel extremely artificial. Mainly in the last dungeon, a huge fraction of what you have to do is walk across disappearing blocks intermixed with people-mover blocks (ones that push you to one direction as you're trying to move) while various things shoot at you. There's also a few places where you walk across disappearing blocks while a lot of bats or other weak but annoying enemies harass you.On top of having virtually no innovations over this game's obvious inspiration ALTTP, it also offers us virtually no quality of life improvements. The fast travel system is arguably better (more locations) but arguably worse (you have to go find a teleport spot to go to any of the others). This game uses the same number of keys as ALTTP, and ALTTP already weirdly ignored the shoulder buttons. The map is significantly less useful than ALTTP's outside of dungeons. It's much better inside them, although that's largely because all dungeons are 1 floor; still, this is definitely a point in Blossom Tales' favour. Couldn't we have gotten, like, a couple extra buttons for items, so I could have more than 2 (+ my sword) configured at a time? It just feels like lazy design.And you know what? All those complaints, and the game took me just a hair over 8 hours to complete. The food was terrible, and the portions were so small!I think I've spewed enough bile here. The game was fine if you're happy to play any old Zelda clone. It has nothing in particular to recommend it.. This game is a clone of classic Zelda games such A Link To The Past and Link's Awakening.It's good at recreating what playing these games felt like, the puzzles are fun and there are tons of hidden secrets to find all around the world.However the game can also get quite repetitive and the narrator becomes annoying quickly.All in all Blossom Tales is a fun experience if you've exhausted all Zelda games but don't expect anything more than a decent yet sometimes uninspired clone.. I like this game when it starts. It doesn't do anything revolutionary, but it's a solid Link's Awakening-like for the price. The problem is that this game doesn't start 80% of the time. A number of users have reported a Visual C++ runtime error that causes the game to crash on startup, but the devs have done no more than acknowledge the problem after six weeks. My thread showing the issue is not related to BitDefender didn't even get a response. The game will sometimes start successfully and allow you to play, but my experience is that if it fails once, you're not going to be playing at all that day.Note that the demo does NOT necessarily reflect whether or not you'll have this issue - that ran just fine for me, but when I finally got around to playing Blossom Tales after the refund period had ended, the runtime error suddenly started happening. It's a good game when it starts, but I can't possibly recommend something this unstable, especially when the devs aren't communicating anything about what they're doing to fix it. If you absolutely must buy this game, make sure you test it thoroughly before losing your refund eligibility.. The puzzles are repetitive, and I stopped playing when it asked me to solve a hamiltonian path puzzle that is larger than the visible screen. This isn't difficult to solve, it's just boring and extremely irritating. At times there are hordes of trivially killed enemies which do nothing but waste time, and while there are a lot of different enemy types it doesn't seem like there was much thought put into making them interesting to fight. The bosses are easy to beat but damage sponges, so it's just boring to fight them. I never felt like anything was particularly challenging, more like the game keeps wasting my time and dragging things out. The story is also pretty lackluster, and honestly I would prefer no story at all in this case. The kids who keep offering inane commentary are annoying.. I only have about an hour in the game so far, but this game really just makes me want to play A Link to the Past instead of continuing on. My main gripe is the controls. Lily is aparently supposed to be a young girl, but she controls like she is hammered. The fact that you have to be moving to throw items doesn't help matters. The story being told by a grandfather to his grandkids is an interesting gimmic, but even this started to get on my nerves. I personally recommend playing A Link to the Past again instead of buying this game.
